First Day 2021
27 Jan 2021
Welcome back to all of you for the 2021 school year. We hope and pray that this year will be a good one for all of us. We especially welcome our new Foundation children and their families to our school community and look forward to getting to know you. Tomorrow, with the children coming back to school, we are providing a coffee van as a welcome back to school. The van will be set up on the basketball court and we ask that if you choose to order a coffee, you do so with the COVID restrictions very much in mind. School begins at the usual time of 8.45am, with the children able to come into school from 8.10am. Last year we were so proud of the children as they did an amazing job of coming to school and being picked up via the Kiss and Go. This year we ask you to do the same if that is possible. Of course we understand that our Foundation families may wish to bring their children into school and you are welcome to do so. At the end of the school day we will be bringing the Foundation, Year 1 and Year 2 children out to the Kiss and Go area to be picked up. If the Foundation parents would like to come in to pick up their children, we ask that you wait on the basketball court and your children will come out to the Kiss and Go line up area for you to collect them. Please do not wait at the stairs as the children need to have access to the stairs as they exit the school building. If you need to collect your child at 3.15pm, they will be supervised in the classroom just as they were last year. At 3.10pm they will go the the Kiss and Go along with the classes from Year 3,4,5 and 6. I hope this answers any questions you may have and please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any further questions or concerns. Looking forward to a wonderful start to our school year tomorrow.

2021 Class Planning
30 Oct 2020
As a part of our planning for classes in 2021, we are asking that parents discuss with their children two students that they feel they would like in their class for 2021. We ask that you focus on which students will be best for both the learning and well-being of your child. We value your opinion and feedback and will endeavour to have at least one of your child's nominated children in their class. There are many things that need to be taken into consideration when organising classes and the conversation you have with your child and the resulting suggestions will help support our decision making. Please trust that our staff know your children and how they learn. Any decsion made about classes for 2021 will be made with all children's learning and wellbeing at the forefront. Please follow this link to complete the short survey https://forms.gle/NvHGqLyVnUqVWua86

Crazy Sock Day
26 Oct 2020
This Friday, the 31st of October we are holding a Crazy Sock Day as a part of our Socktober fundraising for Catholic Mission and to help change the lives of children in need all around the world.
On the day, children can choose to wear socks of different colours, patterns or any other crazy idea. This is to raise awareness for this important cause and also to have FUN!! Each class will also be holding a goal kicking competion on the day, using balls created this week from recycled materials. To make these balls we still need students to bring in old (clean) clothes, old (clean) socks, string, plastic bags, styrofoam and bubble wrap.
We also ask families to register their children at:
https://www.socktober.org.au/fundraising/schools/immaculate-heart-of-mary-newborough
This is where children can ask family and friends for donations to support their goal kicking efforts and raise money for those in need. Thank you to the 38 children who have registered so far. Together they have raised $1,191!!! What a great effort and what a difference this will make for children around the world.

Soctober
08 Oct 2020
This year our school is participating in Socktober. We invite our students to connect with young people experiencing challenges in the developing world through education and the world game of soccer.
We’ve had a challenging year ourselves, but the benefit of this program is that it covers several core parts of our curriculum, and it has been designed to make it easy for us to deliver, and fun for you to engage with at home.
Over several weeks, we’ll take a mission journey around the world, from India to Ethiopia, Thailand to Cambodia, and discover how other cultures live, learn, work and play.
Socktober works best when every child is on board. I’d like to invite you to take a moment to register your child/ren for Socktober so they have the opportunity to join their friends and make a difference for children in need around the world. Setting up your child’s page takes only a few minutes.
Please register your child/ren at our school’s Socktober page here:
https://www.socktober.org.au/fundraising/schools/immaculate-heart-of-mary-newborough
Then, simply share the page and encouraging family and friends to get behind your child/ren’s Socktober journey.
You’ll be asked to pick a fundraising goal when you register. Whatever your child/ren raises towards this goal will support the basic needs of vulnerable children around the world, such as food, clean water, healthcare, and education. You might choose from one of the targets below:
$30 can help purchase food, school uniforms and books for kindergarten children in Cambodia.
$75 can help towards purchasing sports equipment for children with disabilities in Cambodia.
$393 can go towards the costs of medical support and physiotherapy for children with disabilities in Cambodia.
On the 30th of October we will hold a Socktober Event Day, where the children will be able to kick goals for kids in need around the world.
Leading up to this day we ask that children bring in any old socks, old t-shirts, Styrofoam, plastic bags and string. These items will be used to make soccer balls for our event.
Thank you for your support and for helping your child/ren ‘sock it to poverty!’
