Dear Parents and Carers,
What a joyful and memorable day we’ve had celebrating St Mary’s Day together as a school community. Our celebrations began this morning with a beautiful Prayer Gathering in the church. It was a very special celebration with all of our students and staff coming together in prayer and song, giving thanks for our wonderful school and the spirit that binds us together.
During the Prayer Gathering, we also shared a heartwarming PowerPoint presentation that celebrated the many special moments and milestones of our school year so far. It was a lovely way to reflect on what makes St Mary’s such a nurturing and inspiring place to learn and grow.
This afternoon we continue the celebration with St Mary’s Got Talent. The children amazed us during the audition process – their creativity, courage and energy shone through in every performance. It was no easy task selecting the final acts, with talent across so many different areas - singing, dancing, magic, comedy and more. We are all looking forward to an entertaining and exciting show this afternoon.
We also want to acknowledge our students who recently represented St Mary’s at the Winter School Sports. Their sportsmanship, team spirit and effort were outstanding and we are very proud of them.
A big thank you to all families who supported our Pie Drive fundraiser. It was a great success, raising an impressive amount of money that will go towards purchasing more sports equipment for the children to enjoy.
Next week is the last week of the term and the children will finish on Thursday at 3.00pm.
I wish all of our families a wonderful, relaxing and fun-filled school holidays and we look forward to seeing you all again as we begin Term Three on Tuesday, July 22nd as we have a school closure day on Monday, July 21 for the staff to participate in a Professional Learning Day.
As always, I thank you for your ongoing support of all we do at St Mary’s. Days like today remind us just how lucky we are to be part of such a vibrant and caring school community.
On this special day, we offer a prayer for our school as we celebrate Mary.
Prayer for St Mary’s Feast Day
Loving God,
We thank You for the gift of Mary, Jesus’ mother,
a woman of great faith, courage and compassion.
May her example inspire us to listen with open hearts,
to serve with gentle hands,
and to trust in Your love each day.
As we celebrate our special St Mary’s Feast Day,
we give thanks for our school community,
for the friendships we share,
the learning we experience,
and the care we show for one another.
Help us to walk in Mary’s footsteps,
with kindness, humility and hope.
May our school continue to be a place
where faith is alive,
hearts are open,
and everyone is welcomed and valued.
St Mary, pray for us.
Amen.
Warm regards
Lisa
Art Show Invitation and Term Overview
Students have had a very successful semester learning about various artists and art forms, exploring what art means to the artist and the impact it has had on the world. I would love for them to have the opportunity to share their hard work and creativity with their families and friends.
Therefore, I would like to warmly invite the St Mary’s community to our Art Show, which will be held in Week 1 of Term 3, on Wednesday, July 23rd, from 3:00–4:00 PM. This event will showcase our students’ hard work, dedication, and creativity. Please note that the Art Show will be the main focus of the afternoon, and classrooms will not be accessible during this time.
The exhibition will feature both Term 1 creations and artwork from our rich and varied learning throughout Term 2.
Term 2 in Art
This term, we explored a range of new artistic techniques and celebrated significant events through our creativity. We began with Easter-themed art, where students created eggs or bunnies inspired by the holiday.
● Foundation students learned how to use pastels and practiced smudging techniques In creating their ‘Eggcellent Eggs’.
● Grades 1 and 2 used a shadowing method to outline their bunnies and demonstrated an understanding of how two primary colours make a secondary colour in the creation of their ‘Shadow Bunnies’.
● Grades 3 and 4 learnt the techniques of using different patterns within a Zentangle bunny that also taught the children about how mindful art can help us to calm or improve our feelings/ moods.
● Grades 5 and 6 used recyclable materials such as cardboard and egg cartons to craft unique ‘Bunny Portraits’.
Next, we celebrated Catholic Education Week by creating a whole-school artwork themed around this year’s Jubilee: Pilgrims of Hope.
Each class learned about the Jubilee—an event that occurs every 25 years in the Catholic Church—offering people a chance to grow closer to God, celebrate His love and kindness, and embrace forgiveness and new beginnings. The collaborative piece included elements from every class, culminating in a beautiful and meaningful display.
We continued our theme of unity and inspiration by creating a whole-school installation titled “St Mary’s Garden of Hope.”
Here, students learned that hope is the belief that something good might happen, even if it hasn’t yet. Each class contributed a flower, footprint, or stone, with a message of hope for themselves or the world.
We then explored the work of Yayoi Kusama, a contemporary Japanese artist known for her dot artworks and infinity rooms.
● Foundation students worked on their fine motor skills creating their own Obliteration Room-inspired artwork using white paper, felt dots, and stickers for texture.
● Grade 1 students painted Kusama’s iconic dotted pumpkins, presenting them on black paper with additional coloured dots in the background.
● Grade 2 students also created Yayoi’s famous pumpkins with an added 3D element, constructing pumpkins from coloured paper they added their black dots too.
● Grades 3 and 4 designed an infinity net background, then used one of Yayoi’s favourite topics to cut and glue flowers and vases onto their infinity nets, covering them in dots for a Yayoi inspired look.
● Grades 5 and 6 created Yayoi-inspired sculptures using air-dry clay, crafting flowers, pumpkins, or mushrooms decorated with Yayoi’s infamous dots.
To conclude our Creative Arts program for the year, we are currently exploring the work of the renowned — and often controversial — graffiti and street artist Banksy.
Students are learning that graffiti and street art, while visually striking and culturally impactful, are only legal when created with permission. They are discovering why artists like Banksy choose public spaces as their canvas and how Banksy uses his art to convey powerful, often hidden, messages to the world. Inspired by his unique style, students will have the opportunity to either recreate one of Banksy’s iconic pieces or use his work as inspiration to develop their own expressive street art.
As you can see the students have had a wonderful semester of learning and creativity. We look forward to celebrating our students’ achievements with you and hope you can join us at the Art Show!
What a fabulous effort by the Netball A team who competed in the Division Winter Sports on Thursday 19th of June.
The girls won 3 of their 5 games they played and came 3rd overall for the day.
Great job by all who participated.
As a special promotion for this exciting event, the Grade 6 children will design a logo for our concert and it will be turned into a screen print for t-shirts. The children are able to wear these t-shirts on Sports day next term and in the week leading up to the concert.
The cost for the printing is $8 per t-shirt. Students will need to supply their own plain black t-shirt, NO pockets or cropped t-shirts. T-shirts must be brand new OR freshly washed and clearly labelled.
We would love everyone to get involved in this!
Payment for t-shirts is through CDFpay (it will be listed as an event). Please submit payment and then send your t-shirt(s) CLEARLY labelled with your name to school by Term 3, Week 1 - Wednesday 23rd July 2025. They need to be at the printers by this date in order to get them back in a few weeks.
Please see your classroom teacher if you have any questions.
Kind regards,
Elise Meggetto and Catherine Griffiths
Concert Production Team.
